Mission:

Posterus is a New York-based nonprofit organization staffed by volunteers. We are committed to improving the lives of children in emerging communities by providing them with access to quality education—one textbook, one classroom, one schoolhouse…at a time.

Vision:

We believe that your future is often determined by the country where you were born and the family you were born into. Since we have been blessed, we feel we have an obligation to help others reach their greatest potential.

In the hills of Paraguay, the grasslands of the Congo, or the deserts of Namibia, education provides the key to a better life… Posterus means future in Latin. Join us in building a better one for children worldwide.

Values:

Lasting Community Partnerships

We aim to go beyond one-off donor/beneficiary relationships by creating lasting partnerships with our target schools. Posterus provides funding for incremental education projects that have a long-term timetable and the potential for scalable student and community impact.

Supporting Local Leadership

We identify local leaders who understand the needs, aspirations, and culture of their emerging communities. By supporting these leaders, we believe we can optimize the impact of our contributions.

Promoting Accountability and Transparency

Posterus demands that recipient organizations provide detailed project plans, progress reports, and financial statements. Additionally, we seek on-the-ground project monitoring by either Posterus members or through third-party relationships.

Maximization of Donor Value

Posterus is completely staffed and managed by volunteers. By minimizing overhead expenditure and targeting the most effective education projects, we aim to pass on as much of each donor dollar as we can toward communities.

Goals:

Provide the developing world’s children with the opportunities and knowledge they need to better their economic and social lives
Expand the capacity of underfunded schools in developing countries in order to extend their service reach.

Posterus aims to accomplish these goals by:

  • Funding specific infrastructure projects including site construction and supply, technology, and library resource provision.

  • Working with local suppliers and craftsman to achieve our infrastructure goals.

Ensuring that all projects are driven by the local community and that maintenance, security, and ownership of the projects remains in local hands.

  • Create a member-driven organization where each member has a voice in determining which projects get funded and a hand in helping to fundraise for those projects.
  • Increase donor and general awareness of the education needs of poor children, and the instrumental role such education has in decreasing poverty rates.
